Frank H. Murphy, MS Chemistry worked at The Dow Chemical Company for thirty-five years, progressing from research and development, to technical service and development and finally product regulatory management. He served for ten years on the team doing process safety reviews of on site process units. He spent the first fifteen years of his career on process support research and new product development in R&D, and was the lead technical service manager for the propylene oxide and propylene glycols businesses.
Frank was the internal consultant for US FDA and USP regulatory compliance of Dow products. He led Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) implementation and auditing for Dow Chemical globally and directed compliance initiatives at approximately fifty plants in twenty countries in the areas of active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients, direct food additives and food contact materials. In addition, Frank Incorporated GMP guidelines into the Dow operating discipline management system (ODMS) and organized and conducted a Food, Feed, and Pharmaceutical Employee Network on topics relating to Dow products sold into these sensitive product areas.
Frank has recruited speakers and presented training on topics including the International Conference of Harmonization, Pharmacopeia compliance, US FDA regulatory issues, and certification (including Kosher, Halal, and European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients GMP). Since retiring from Dow in June 2013, Frank has been working as a consultant in regulatory compliance for the food, excipient and active pharmaceutical ingredients industries.
